Word search generator

Build a word search (word find) puzzle from your own vocabulary list. Enter words separated by commas or new lines, choose a grid size from 6 to 20, and download a PDF to print. Words are placed horizontally, vertically, or diagonally; leftover cells fill with random letters. Skipped words that do not fit are listed so you can shorten them or enlarge the grid.

When to use this tool

When you want a custom vocabulary list instead of a generic published puzzle.
When you need a printable PDF for class, events, or newsletters.
When you want unlimited new layouts from the same word list.

When to choose something else

When you need crossword clues or numbered definitions — this is word search only.
When words must appear only forward and not backward — this tool may place words in reverse directions.
When you need editable vector art — export is PDF from SVG layout.

Designing a fair puzzle

Too many long words in a small grid causes skips. Start with 8–15 medium-length terms for a 12×12. Mix lengths so the packer has flexibility. For young readers, use uppercase-friendly words without hyphens.

Classroom workflow

Generate once, print a class set, and reuse the same PDF next year — or click Generate for a new letter arrangement with identical words so students cannot copy last year’s circled paths.
