How to count days between dates
1. Select or type the start date.

3. Choose whether to include the end date in the count if the tool offers that option.
4. Read the total days, and weeks or months if shown.
Date range examples
30-day notice period
Resignation on 1 March with 30 days notice: end date 31 March — 30 full days between if counting exclusively from the next day.
Project sprint
Sprint from 2026-06-01 to 2026-06-14 inclusive = 14 calendar days (2 weeks).
Leap year span
From 2024-02-28 to 2024-03-01 = 2 days because 2024 is a leap year with 29 February.
When to count days between dates
• When you verify contract notice periods or refund windows.
• When you plan milestones backward from a fixed launch date.
• When you calculate age in days for infants or scientific experiments.
Inclusive vs exclusive day counting
Hotel stays often count nights (exclusive of checkout day): check-in Mon, check-out Wed = 2 nights. Legal notice may count calendar days including weekends. Always match the counting rule in your contract or policy.
Frequently asked questions
Are start and end dates included?
Depends on the option selected. Inclusive counting includes both endpoints; exclusive often counts nights between dates.
How are leap years handled?
29 February is counted in leap years. The calculator uses standard Gregorian calendar rules.
Can I count backwards?
If end date is before start date, the tool typically shows a negative count or swaps dates — check the interface.
How many days in a year?
365 in common years, 366 in leap years — useful when converting day counts to approximate years.
